Day 1: Auckland
After meeting the group, you will set off for an orientation tour to let you get acquainted with all that the city has to offer. The range of activities is huge, include shark diving, canyoning in Piha or climb Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower.
Day 2: Auckland to Coromandel
Here you will be able to see remnants of volcanic activity, in the form of natural hot pools you can dig in the sand and make your own hot tub! There is also the opportunity to carve your very own kiwi pendant from bone.
Day 3: Coromandel to Rotorua
Experience the gorgeous coastal scenery of the Cathedral Cove area, made famous by films such as The Chronicles of Narnia. In Rotorua, activities include the famous Zorb, where you roll down the hill whilst inside a giant air-cushioned ball!
Day 4: Rotorua to Waitomo Caves
It is an early start for white-water rafting and sledging on the Kaituna River, including the 7m Tutua Falls! After lunch,we take a trip up the Rotorua gondola, and in the evening your guide may take you on an exciting torch lit trek around some of the area’s caves.
Day 5: Waitomo Caves to Taupo
Waitomo's main attraction is the glow-worm caves, with a choice of various ways to journey underground through the caves. Our particular favourite is black-water rafting and a wicked four hour caving trip. At night, feel free to experience the town’s best nightlife.
Day 6: Taupo
On this free day, you can start off with an epic skydive over the lake or go quad biking, play golf or bungy jump over New Zealand’s longest river, the mighty Waikato. In the arvo, there's an option to take a cruise on The Barbary sailing boat to see Maori rock carvings, whilst in the evening your guide will treat you to a soak in some naturally-heated thermal rock pools.
Day 7: Taupo to Wellington
The 'biggest attractions' on this road are Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe, the volcano better known for Mt Doom in Lord of the Rings. A stop at Mokai Gravity Canyon, (an extreme adventure park), allows you to ride the world’s most extreme flying fox and NZ’s second largest bungy. In summer, we finish with a BBQ on one of the beaches in front of the dying sun.
Day 8: Wellington to Kaikoura
You will catch the morning Inter-islander ferry to the South Island, passing through the Cook Strait into the Marlborough Sounds. You will arrive in Picton, a town rich in marine activity, with its deep sea trench allowing sea creatures such as whales, dolphins and seals to come up close and personal.
Day 9: Kaikoura to Christchurch
This morning is for activities, with the chance to swim with dolphins, go whale watching, learn to surf or play mini golf. We will have lunch from a seafood cart along the esplanade, afterward setting off on the short drive to the 'Garden City' of Christchurch where the bars, cafés and nightclubs are some of the best in NZ.
Day 10: Christchurch to Lake Tekapo
There is a chance to escape the city with Extreme Jet Boating or a Hot Air Balloon ride this morning. After lunch, you will experience the immaculate Lake Tekapo, and it's intense turquoise hue, a real tour highlight. This town is a ski resort in winter and aquatic playground in summer, sculpted by successive Ice Age glaciers.
Day 11: Lake Tekapo to Queenstown
You have more time to enjoy Lake Tekapo before hitting the road. Arriving in Queenstown, the "jewel in NZ's tourism crown", your guide will give you a tour of the town centre. In the evening, we take the Queenstown gondola (included in tour price) to view our spectacular surroundings. The nightlife in the town is lively and there is always something going on!
Day 12: Queenstown
You have a whole day to spend in Queenstown and you are spoilt for choice! Skydiving, paragliding, rafting, the Shotover Canyon Swing, Nevis and Kawarua Bridge bungys, quad biking, and boat trips are all on the cards! For a more relaxed day, we recommend you use the chance to go on the absolutely gorgeous, world famous Milford Sounds.
Day 13: Queenstown to Wanaka
On the drive we stop at Cardrona Adventure Park, where you can drive monster trucks and 8-wheeled argos! When we arrive at Wanaka, we are greeted by picturesque lakes, where during summer, wake-boarding, water-skiing, lake cruises and swimming are on the agenda, in the winter Wanaka is a complete snow sports destination. During winter you can go large and go heli-skiing in either Wanaka or Queenstown!
Day 14: Wanaka to Franz Josef
You can begin their day with a mind-blowing skydive with views of both Fox Glacier and Mt Cook in the distance! There is heaps to see and do along our drive today, and your tour manager will take you to one of our favourite waterfalls, the Roaring Billy Falls. Between the mountains and the almost unbroken stretch of surf beaches are low hills and broad terraces among which are beautiful forest-fringed lakes.
Day 15: Franz Josef
You cannot visit Franz Josef without paying your respects to the glacier. If you can afford it, we highly recommend reaching the bluest ice via helicopter with a heli-hike. There is some awesome quad biking for the afternoon, horse trekking, or otherwise relax in the hostel’s spa pool, TV lounge or have a drink in one of the cafés or bars.
Day 16: Franz Josef to Christchurch
We head to the west coast on one of the most spectacular drives in the world. We make a few stops, including the Bushman’s Centre where you can taste a Possum pie! We reach Greymouth Train Station by lunchtime, where you board the Tranz Alpine train. The crossing takes 4.5 hours, reaching Christchurch by 6pm to say your final goodbyes.
